Equine Therapy

Equine therapy receives recognition as a healing therapeutic process. In addition, horses have a unique sensitivity to people’s feelings. Newport Academy’s certified Equine-Assisted Therapists use this relational context to guide and support change. Therefore, the human-horse connection allows residents to address emotions and issues. They do this through a powerful, direct experience of nonverbal communication. Consequently, Equine-Assisted Therapy can be especially effective with teens who are resistant to talk-therapy. Teens learn about themselves and others by working with horses, therapists, and peers.

Equine Therapy Creates Connection

Newport Academy provides on-site Equine-Assisted Therapy, where each client is assigned a horse to work with and care for. Credentialed Equine Therapists are present at all times during the therapeutic process. They work collaboratively with the treatment team in the development and implementation of the treatment plan.

Equine-Assisted Therapy provides an honest, reflective, relational context in which adolescents can identify behaviors. As a result, they create meaningful and abiding relationships (with their horses). Ultimately, the confidence and skills developed during Equine Therapy are transferable to relationships with family and friends. Therefore this is an essential step in growth and recovery from mental health struggles. If you or someone you love is in need of support, contact us. Our team is here to help.
